Yu Haocheng (于浩成) was a Chinese legal scholar and dissident intellectual associated with legal reform, constitutionalism, and human-rights advocacy.
Public record
Amnesty International and the International Commission of Jurists documented his arrest on June 27, 1989 and detention in Qincheng Prison after the 1989 crackdown. Later reporting documented continuing travel restrictions and his eventual travel to the United States as a visiting scholar in 1994.
A March 1991 China Spring issue includes Yu Haocheng’s article 国无法制最堪忧, providing a contemporaneous source anchor for his legal and political concerns.
Evidence notes
The exact date of release from post-1989 detention remains unresolved in the current source record and is not inferred here. Exact institutional tenure dates and permanent-residency chronology also remain subjects for further archival verification.
Source baseline: Amnesty International; International Commission of Jurists; South China Morning Post reporting; UCLA biographical material; China Spring issue 94.
