Who We Are
Free China Movement (FCM) is a research-driven civic initiative connecting historical documentation, constitutional study, human-rights advocacy, public education, and democratic-transition preparedness.
Our Mission
FCM works to document repression and preserve historical evidence, defend human rights and fundamental freedoms, advance public understanding of China, and prepare peaceful, democratic and constitutional alternatives for China’s future.
Our History
FCM’s institutional record includes the June 23, 1998 Free China Movement Unity Conference and its Declaration of Moral Purpose. We preserve this history together with primary documents, movement archives, people and organization records, and later research so that historical claims can be examined against evidence.

What We Do
We build and maintain public archives; document political imprisonment, censorship and other human-rights concerns; publish news, statements and rapid responses; develop people and organization records; conduct constitutional and public-policy research; and prepare practical frameworks for a peaceful democratic transition and a future constitutional order.
Governance & Public Responsibility
FCM is designed as a durable public institution rather than a personality-centered project. Its published work is governed by documented editorial, research, sourcing, corrections and AI-human-review standards, with evidence and uncertainty identified as clearly as practicable.
Funding & Independence
FCM seeks support for research, preservation, publishing, public education and civic work. Funding should not determine factual findings or override the movement’s published editorial and research standards. As fundraising and institutional arrangements develop, material funding relationships and applicable disclosures should be published transparently.

Historical Founding Principles & Declaration of Moral Purpose
On June 23, 1998, participants in the Free China Movement Unity Conference adopted a Declaration of Moral Purpose as the coalition’s guiding principle, affirming democratic rule of law, human rights, free elections, freedom of speech, thought, religion and assembly, political- and religious-prisoner release, autonomous labor unions, peaceful action, and a government accountable to the people. This historical statement is preserved as part of the movement’s institutional record and should be read together with today’s evidence, constitutional and public-service principles.

FreeChina.net, a domain historically associated with our work and a substantial body of archived material, is no longer under our control. We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the loss of control and working to determine what historical data can still be recovered from previous hosting systems and backups. The current holder of FreeChina.net is not authorized to represent the Free China Movement.
We are preparing a fundraising campaign to support domain recovery or reacquisition where feasible, historical data recovery and preservation, reconstruction of missing archive material, and resilient long-term digital preservation infrastructure.
