Free China Movement develops, documents, compares, and evaluates practical public-policy alternatives for China. This section connects historical democratic policy criticism and constructive proposals with FCM’s documented positions since 1998 and current governing alternatives.
How this record works
- Historical viewpoints preserve attribution to the original activist, scholar, organization, or movement.
- Important non-FCM viewpoints receive a separate FCM retrospective editorial assessment: agree, partly agree, disagree, mixed, unresolved, or position evolved — with reasons.
- Where no contemporaneous FCM position can be verified, the record says so and does not backdate a current position.
- FCM alternatives address implementation, costs and trade-offs, majority preferences, minority rights, measurable outcomes, and later reassessment.
- Policies that work or contain useful elements should be acknowledged; the purpose is better governance, not automatic opposition.
The long-term goal is a traceable FCM Governing Record: what was proposed, what democratic actors said, what FCM historically said, what FCM recommends now, what was implemented, and what results followed.
