Tsedon (才仲; also rendered Tsedron and other Chinese variants) was a second-year student at Tibet University in Lhasa who died in January 2024 following detention by police in Nyemo County.
Detention and death
Contemporary reporting states that Tsedon was detained in Ritso Township, Nyemo County, on December 26, 2023, for reasons not publicly explained. Her family was informed on January 15, 2024 that she had died at the People’s Hospital of Nyemo County.
Disputed circumstances
Tibet Times reported that local police told the family Tsedon had suddenly fallen or collapsed and did not recover. The same reporting relayed suspicions from family or community sources that she may have been beaten or tortured. The Congressional-Executive Commission on China’s 2024 Annual Report recorded the detention and death and described brutality claims as speculation. No public autopsy result or independent investigation resolves the cause.
