Background and case

Wong served in the Legislative Council from 2012 to 2020 and taught at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She was prosecuted for participating in the July 2020 unofficial democratic primary. Hong Kong Watch currently lists her in jail and records a 6-year 6-month sentence for conspiracy to commit subversion.

Appeal and current status

Wong’s appeal against conviction and sentence was rejected by the Court of Appeal on February 23, 2026. On August 10, 2026, she was among 11 Hong Kong 47 defendants granted a certificate/leave pathway to take certified legal questions toward the Court of Final Appeal.
