Patrick Lam Shiu-tung — Hong Kong Case Profile & Archive

Last verified: September 13, 2026. Former acting editor-in-chief of Stand News, convicted in the 2024 sedition case arising from the outlet’s journalism.

Current classification

RELEASED / FORMER DETAINEE — the court ordered his immediate release at sentencing on September 26, 2024 after taking account of time served and his medical condition; his conviction was later appealed.

Case record

Lam was arrested with Stand News colleagues in December 2021 and prosecuted for conspiracy to publish seditious publications. He was convicted in August 2024. On September 26, 2024 the District Court imposed an 11-month term after mitigation; because of time already spent in custody and his health, he was released immediately. This profile therefore does not classify him as a current prisoner on that sentence.

Evidence and provenance

This archive separates present custody from historical arrest, conviction, suspended sentence, fine, release or appeal status. It does not project release dates from sentence arithmetic and does not convert an administrative or ordinary criminal conviction into a National Security Law conviction unless the record supports that characterization.
