In November 2022 the defendant was convicted of failing to register or obtain an exemption for the now-defunct 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund under the Societies Ordinance and was fined HK$4,000. On September 3, 2026 the Court of Appeal dismissed the five trustees’ appeals. Reporting after judgment said they intended to seek review by the Court of Final Appeal. Legal precision is essential: the conviction being appealed was under the Societies Ordinance registration framework, not a National Security Law conviction.
