Chen Jian

Chen Jian (陈健) is a member of the Shenyang Sai Er Te Fellowship, a house-church network in Shenyang, Liaoning province, northeastern China. He is among the fellowship members detained in the 2025 crackdown on the group, and was listed by the Rights Defense Network’s monthly political-prisoner report as detained without sentencing in Liaoning as of August 31, 2026.

According to the CHRD prisoner database, Chen Jian was most recently taken into custody on September 29, 2025, under the charge of “using a cult organization to undermine the implementation of the law” (利用邪教组织破坏法律实施罪) — the charge Chinese authorities have applied to the Sai Er Te Fellowship detentions. As of a November 2025 update to that database record, he remained in detention, with no sentence recorded.

The crackdown on the fellowship began in late June 2025, when Kangping County police in Shenyang detained several members, including Pastor Qu Hongbo (known as Pastor Mingdao), Wang Xiangchao, Shao Huaxuan, Liu Xueyun, and Gu Hui. Church and family accounts reported that detainees were subjected to prolonged interrogation and mistreatment (these accounts are attributed to the church and family members and have not been independently verified). Several detainees were released on bail in late July, then re-detained between September 26 and 29, 2025, when authorities re-imposed the “cult” charge; Chen Jian was among those re-taken on September 29.

In April 2026, ahead of a pretrial conference in the case, prosecutors recommended sentences of four and a half years for Pastor Qu and three years each for three other defendants. Chen Jian was not among the defendants named in those recommendations, and his case’s subsequent course has not been publicly documented.
