Chen Yanqiu (陈艳秋) is a Falun Gong practitioner from the High-Tech Industrial Development Zone of Chengde City, Hebei Province. After three hearings at the Shuangqiao District Court, she was sentenced to nine years in prison in May 2025; an investigative notice by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong reports that she appealed and the sentence was reduced to four years on retrial. She appears in the Rights Defense Network (维权网) monthly report of August 31, 2026 (Issue 131) in the report’s “sentenced to 9 years” group of forty-eight people, which the report classifies as political prisoners and prisoners of conscience currently in custody.
Chen was arrested at her home on the morning of July 12, 2024, by officers from the Chengde Municipal Public Security Bureau together with district, township, and county units; she was held in the Chengde City Detention Center, and 15,500 yuan in cash from her boxed-lunch business was seized. Her case was moved from the Chengde County Procuratorate to the Shuangqiao District Procuratorate in early November 2024 and indicted to the Shuangqiao District Court; she was tried at the court’s High-Tech Zone tribunal on December 27, 2024 and January 7 and February 10, 2025.
The roster classifies her in the 9-year group (the first-instance verdict), while the later investigative notice reports a second-instance reduction to 4 years; the date of the retrial is not documented. Both facts are stated here with that discrepancy noted — see the Media Profile & Archive.
