Chetan Kumar’s chapter “Transnational Networks and Campaigns for Democracy,” in The Third Force: The Rise of Transnational Civil Society (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, 2000), describes the Free China Movement as having persuaded Adidas to abandon manufacture of soccer balls in China because of forced-labor allegations. This later secondary-source attribution is significant corroborating evidence of the campaign’s public impact, but it should not by itself be treated as proof of every underlying allegation or as a complete reconstruction of Adidas’s decision-making.
