1998 Free China Unity Meeting Invitation — Recovered Original Page

Historical recovery status: Verbatim Archive Recovery source located.

A surviving FreeChina.net page preserves the invitation to the Free China Movement “Unity Meeting,” June 4–6, 1998, held in Washington, D.C. at George Washington University and on Capitol Hill.

The invitation describes the meeting as an effort to make the Chinese democracy movement a more effective and coordinated political force. It states four practical goals for the gathering: choose a name for the network, endorse a statement of moral purpose, agree on an action agenda, and establish a coordinating committee able to respond to major political developments.

The archived page identifies Shengde Lian and Joel Segal as Unity Conference coordinators and describes participation by Chinese democracy activists, U.S. lawmakers, human-rights advocates, labor activists, and scholars.
