The historical FreeChina.net file /fcmupdate/v1n2.html survives in the Wayback Machine and is dated July 2, 1998. The issue largely reproduces contemporary Reuters and Associated Press reporting concerning allegations of forced labor in soccer-ball production, a planned lawsuit involving Adidas, reactions by Chinese dissidents to President Bill Clinton’s China trip, and attributed comments from Free China Movement participants.
Because much of the surviving issue consists of third-party copyrighted wire-service text, this recovery page preserves the issue metadata, subject matter, FCM context and source link rather than republishing those articles in full.
FCM-specific historical evidence
The archived issue attributes statements to Joel Segal and Shengde Lian and describes the Free China Movement as a coalition of more than 30 dissident organizations. Those descriptions are preserved as statements in the 1998 source and should be cross-checked against independent coverage where relevant.
