Historical recovery status: Verified Contemporary Reporting / Original FCM web report still sought.
Contemporary reporting by The Washington Post in July 2000 attributed to the Washington-based Free China Movement a report about unrest involving workers and their families at Chengdu’s No. 3508 Factory in Sichuan. The newspaper reported that the factory head had sold the factory and announced two months’ wages as severance, after which workers and family members surrounded the factory and an office building. Chengdu police separately confirmed that protests had occurred, while giving a smaller number of demonstrators remaining at the scene.
This archive entry preserves the documented existence and substance of the Free China Movement report. The original FreeChina.net posting or release has not yet been independently recovered, so no missing wording is reconstructed.
