Historical recovery status: Verbatim Homepage Evidence + Independent Contemporary Reporting.
The surviving February 1, 2001 FreeChina.net homepage shows that the Free China Movement was already campaigning around Beijing’s bid for the 2008 Olympic Games and linking the bid to human-rights conditions. After Beijing was selected in July 2001, contemporary Reuters reporting carried by Wired reported that Chinese dissidents, including Shengde Lian, called for a boycott.
