Ablimit Hoshur Harris is a Uyghur philanthropist and entrepreneur from Ghulja in the Ili region of Xinjiang. His name is also rendered Ablimit Hoshur Hajim and Ablimit Hoshur Halis Haji; USCIRF records the Uyghur form ئابلىمىت ھوشۇر ھاجىم. No reviewed source provides Chinese characters for his name.
Radio Free Asia reporting republished by Chinese Human Rights Defenders states, based on information from his half-brother Erkin Molla Esya, that Halis Haji founded an education fund in 1994 to support Uyghur students. The same reporting says authorities detained him, his younger brother Abdureshit Hoshur Haji, and two business associates in or around May 2018 and transferred them to Ghulja. Police contacted by RFA did not provide information about their whereabouts or condition.
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom’s Freedom of Religion or Belief Victims Database lists Ablimit Hoshur Hajim as detained since May 2018, with current status recorded as “Not Released,” charges unknown, and the reported reasons including ethnoreligious identity and humanitarian or charitable activity. Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131, dated August 31, 2026, also lists “Ablimit Hoshur Harris” among reported current-custody cases.
No reviewed source establishes criminal charges, court proceedings, a sentence, or a current detention facility. In particular, reports concerning an 18-year sentence for another Uyghur philanthropist, Nurtay Hajim Iskender, must not be attributed to Ablimit Hoshur Harris.
