Andrew Chiu Ka-yin (趙家賢) is a former Eastern District Councillor and former convenor of Power for Democracy.
Arrest and charge
Chiu was arrested on January 6, 2021 for his role in the July 2020 unofficial democratic primary and was formally charged on February 28, 2021 with conspiracy to commit subversion.
Sentence
On November 19, 2024, Chiu was sentenced to 7 years in the Hong Kong 47 case.
Release
Chiu was granted early release for good behaviour and left prison on October 28, 2025, becoming the first national-security offender reported to receive early release under the existing framework. He is classified here as a former political prisoner / released.
