Chen Qing (陈青, also written 陈清) is a retired factory worker and Falun Gong practitioner from Mian County, Shaanxi Province, serving a 3-year-6-month sentence after being seized by police in July 2024. Now in his sixties, he had been detained, labor-re-educated, and held in brainwashing sessions multiple times since the early 2000s for his Falun Gong practice. After his July 2024 detention he was secretly tried and sentenced to 3 years 6 months; at the end of 2025 he was transferred to Weinan Prison in Shaanxi, where the sentence is reported to run to the end of 2027 or early 2028.
A retired worker of the Shaanxi Hard Alloy Tool Factory (陕西硬质合金工具厂), Chen is a widower living alone in Mian County; his wife died years ago under the strain of his repeated detentions, and his son works in another city. His history with the authorities is long: he was sent to labor re-education (劳教) in early 2002; in September 2013 he was questioned by police, taken away by the Hanzhong public security bureau the next day, and later held in a Mian County brainwashing facility (洗脑班), where money was extorted from him; in March 2017 he was detained for 10 days with fellow practitioner Zhao Xiulan after distributing Falun Gong materials; in August 2023 he was detained administratively for 13 days.
In July 2024 Chen suddenly went missing. Two months later his family and friends learned that Mian County police had seized him. The case was then processed through the local police, procuratorate, and court without public disclosure. He was sentenced to 3 years 6 months on undisclosed charges and, at the end of 2025, was secretly transferred to Weinan Prison (渭南监狱) in Shaanxi. The Minghui report that documents the case describes the conviction as a wrongful one (枉判) — a characterization attributed to that source; the exact charge and trial proceedings have not been publicly disclosed.
The August 31, 2026 rights-defense roster (Rights Defense Network / 维权网, Issue 131) lists 陈青 among people serving 3-year-6-month sentences who are reported in custody — consistent with this case. (The identification of the roster entry with the Mian County practitioner rests on the name, the identical 3.5-year term, the Shaanxi anchor, and the in-custody status; it is graded probable, not certain.)
