Wu Chi-wai (胡志偉) is a former chairman of Hong Kong’s Democratic Party and a former Hong Kong 47 political prisoner.
Arrest and charge
Wu was arrested on January 6, 2021 in the Hong Kong 47 national-security sweep and later charged with conspiracy to commit subversion. Separate Tiananmen-vigil and unauthorized-assembly cases are preserved as distinct legal episodes.
Sentence
On November 19, 2024, Wu was sentenced to 4 years 5 months in the Hong Kong 47 case.
Release
Wu was released on June 30, 2026 after completing his sentence. He later travelled to the United Kingdom; his post-release UK immigration episode is tracked separately and does not alter his released/former-prisoner classification.

After his 30 June 2026 release from the Hong Kong 47 sentence, Wu Chi-wai travelled to the United Kingdom. He was initially detained at Heathrow and faced removal, but by 28 July 2026 UK Border Force had permitted him to remain for six months. This immigration episode is recorded separately from his Hong Kong criminal case and does not change his classification as a released/former political prisoner.
