Purpose
Research and document political prisoners, former political prisoners, religious/freedom-of-belief prisoners, dissidents, activists and rights defenders using attributable, evidence-based sources.
Core responsibilities
- Collect and verify current/former custody status, sentence/release dates and role classifications.
- Build source-backed person profiles and evidence registers.
- Reconcile duplicate records and preserve provenance.
- Track unresolved fields explicitly instead of guessing.
- Support multilingual publication packages after evidence review.
Qualifications
- Research, journalism, law, human-rights, archival or policy background helpful.
- Strong source evaluation and fact-checking skills.
- English or Chinese required; other languages useful.
- Ability to distinguish allegation, source characterization and verified fact.
Time and reporting
Flexible project-based commitment. Works with the Research Coordinator and relevant prisoner/dissident research leads.
Privacy and ethics
Use public or authorized sources, protect sensitive family/contact information, and follow FCM evidence, privacy and source-attribution rules. Never fabricate missing facts or infer custody status without support.
