Free China Movement is building a practical network of national/international functions, state and regional chapters, local/city/university chapters, and project-based volunteer teams.
How chapters are structured
A new chapter can begin with as few as three active participants. The minimum recommended functions are: Chapter Coordinator, Communications / Community Outreach, and Membership / Events. Additional roles are added only when activity and membership justify them.
Priority opportunities
- Search & Information Architecture Coordinator — help build multilingual search, taxonomy, aliases/transliterations and discovery.
- WordPress / Web Publishing Volunteer — publishing QA, multilingual counterparts, internal links and metadata.
- Political Prisoner & Human Rights Research Volunteer — current/former prisoner, religious/freedom-of-belief and rights-defender research.
- Translation / Multilingual Editor — Chinese-English, French, German and Spanish publication support.
- Chapter Development Coordinator — help establish state, regional, local and university chapters.
- Media / Press Research Volunteer — media contacts, press research and source-supported outreach preparation.
Unless a posting specifically states otherwise, these are volunteer or status-to-be-confirmed opportunities. Free China Movement does not imply salary or paid employment where compensation has not been approved.
Start a chapter
A proposed chapter should identify its geographic or campus scope, at least three initial active participants, a temporary coordinator, a contact method, and a simple 90-day activity plan. Participants should agree to FCM’s nonviolence, democratic values, truth/evidence standards, privacy/security rules and public-conduct standards.
Other research opportunities
See Internship & Volunteer Research Opportunities for the existing research-focused program.
