    Mo Shaoping | 莫少平

Mo Shaoping is a prominent Chinese criminal-defense and human-rights lawyer whose legal work has included politically sensitive and freedom-of-expression cases in mainland China.

    Public role

Available controlled FreeChina research supports describing Mo as a human-rights and criminal-defense lawyer who remained publicly professionally active in mainland China in 2026. This profile does not characterize him as currently imprisoned.

    Status and evidence

Current professional activity is supported in the FreeChina research record. Primary official lawyer-license and law-firm registry evidence remains an enrichment target. A reported exit restriction is not treated here as established custody or imprisonment without stronger corroboration.

    Research status

This is a source-bounded canonical profile. Additional primary records and independent reporting will be added as they are verified.

  • Tang Yuanjun / 唐元隽

Present classification: Present status under review · Region: Mainland China

    Tang Yuanjun / 唐元隽

Status: Canonical People profile; source enrichment ongoing.

Tang Yuanjun (唐元隽 / 唐元雋; Yuanjun Tang) was a First Automobile Works engineer and 1989 democracy activist who later became a China Democracy Party organizer and U.S.-based democracy activist.

    PRC imprisonment and exile

Controlled sources report that Tang was arrested in June 1989 and initially sentenced to 20 years plus five years’ deprivation of political rights. His sentence was reduced or changed in 1997 and he was released in July 1997; Taiwan Association for Human Rights reporting gives July 7 as the release date. Original PRC judgment and release instruments remain to be acquired.

    Later activity and U.S. case

Sources document later China Democracy Party activity and overseas organizing. In 2025 Tang entered a guilty plea in U.S. federal court on one conspiracy count concerning unregistered foreign-agent activity. The controlled P1 baseline does not establish a final sentencing disposition or current custody, so this profile does not infer one.

    Evidence status

The media baseline draws on CHRD, U.S. congressional records, Taiwan human-rights and foreign-ministry sources, Taipei Times, Beijing Spring, RFA oral history, U.S. Department of Justice/court filings, Reuters, AP and VOA. PRC legal instruments, CDP governance records, asylum files and the final U.S. judgment remain enrichment targets.

  • Zhou Dajue 周大觉 / 周大杰 — Hunan Democracy Activist

    Profile status
Present classification: Present status under review · Region: Mainland China

    Overview

Zhou Dajue, recorded in sources as 周大觉 and 周大杰, was a Hunan democracy activist and intellectual associated with the 1998 Hunan China Democracy Party preparatory effort.

    Organization and public activity

Controlled sources connect Zhou to the China Democracy Party Hunan Preparatory Committee. Exact offices and internal governance roles remain source-bounded pending recovery of original organization records.

    Identity and status cautions

The Chinese-name forms 周大觉 and 周大杰 remain under reconciliation and are preserved as source variants rather than silently normalized. Later organization material reports Zhou as deceased, but an authoritative death record establishing the exact date and place has not yet been recovered.

    Evidence baseline

The media baseline includes Radio Free Asia, legal-text material hosted by rights organizations, Beijing Spring, and participant sources. Original 1998 Hunan application and roster records, identity documentation, internal-governance records, and authoritative death documentation remain research priorities.

  • Qi Zhiyong 齐志勇 — Tiananmen Survivor and Democracy Advocate

    Profile status
Present classification: Present status under review · Region: Mainland China

    Overview

Qi Zhiyong (齐志勇) is a survivor of the 1989 Beijing crackdown and a public witness who later engaged in democracy, disability-rights, and June Fourth remembrance advocacy.

    Documented public record

The controlled evidence baseline includes Amnesty International, Radio Free Asia, and rights-monitoring sources spanning 1995–2024. Those sources document recurring episodes of detention, house arrest, surveillance, and political controls. These episodes are treated separately and are not combined into a single continuous custodial term.

    Status caution

Reports in January 2024 stated that Qi had died, but stronger family or authoritative confirmation has not yet been recovered. Free China Movement therefore preserves his death status as under verification rather than presenting it as established fact.

    Evidence and open questions

Primary 1989 medical records, police detention and house-arrest files, and stronger death confirmation remain research priorities. This profile does not infer facts beyond the controlled evidence.
