Sun Qing (孙清) is a citizen of Huzhu Tu Autonomous County in Haidong, Qinghai Province, who has been detained since May 2020 over online speech. According to the China Political Prisoner Concern (CPPC) case record and the Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) Prisoners of Conscience database, Sun was an active social-media user who, beginning in 2014, posted and reposted commentary critical of government policies on the Chinese platform WeChat and, through the firewall, on Twitter. CPPC identifies the three Twitter accounts he is said to have registered: @maowus2 (2014), @ruoguang86 (2018), and @cittakusala (2019).
In May 2020, a task force of the Qinghai Provincial Public Security Department’s state-security division ordered the Huzhu County police to detain him and place him under criminal detention, on the suspected charge of “inciting subversion of state power” (煽动颠覆国家政权罪). The Huzhu County Procuratorate subsequently approved his formal arrest on the same charge. His case was tried at the Huzhu County Court in December 2022. He has been held at the Huzhu County Detention Center.
The Rights Defense Network (维权网) roster of political prisoners in custody lists Sun Qing as detained without sentence (羁押未判) as of August 31, 2026 — the most current status report located. His birth date and occupation have not been reported. (Last confirmed report: August 2026.)
Attribution note: the facts above are drawn from CPPC’s case record and the CHRD database; the charge is alleged, not adjudicated — no conviction has been reported.
Identity note: He is not 孙庆菊 (Sun Qingju), a different person with a separate profile, nor 孙萍 (Sun Ping) or 孙萌 (Sun Meng).
