Nie Minzhi / 聂敏之

Nie Minzhi (聂敏之) was a veteran Zhejiang democracy activist associated with the China Democracy Party and earlier unofficial publishing.

Democracy activity

Human-rights reporting identifies Nie as a Zhejiang China Democracy Party activist. Historical sources describe earlier Democracy Wall publishing and his assumption of greater Zhejiang CDP responsibilities after the 1999 arrests of other leaders.

Detention and later death

Nie was detained in late 2000 and administratively sentenced to reeducation through labor. Sources conflict over whether the term was one or two years. Reports indicate serious illness, release or medical return home, and his death in Hangzhou on October 7, 2001. The available evidence therefore does not support describing his death as occurring in custody.

Evidence status

The Zhejiang CDP affiliation, detention and post-release death are sufficiently supported for a source-bounded profile. The original labor decision, medical-transfer/release records, hospital records and death certificate remain research targets.

This profile preserves the conflict over the RTL term rather than resolving it by inference.
