Documented identity and activity

Asia Watch reported Qian Lizhu as a 26-year-old peasant from Yueyang City, Hunan. During the 1989 Democracy Movement, authorities accused Qian of coming into the city to spread “rumors,” attacking the Party and government, and participating in “disturbances.” These are authorities’ characterizations quoted by Asia Watch, not adjudicated findings.

Administrative detention

Qian was reported arrested after June 4, 1989. In October 1989 the Yueyang City Public Security Bureau imposed three years of re-education through labor.

This was administrative detention, not a criminal court sentence.

Evidence limits

The source itself warns that the surname may be incorrect. No Chinese-character name, RTL decision document, detention facility, confirmed release date, later biography, or current-status record is established in the present packet. Free China does not infer release from the nominal term.
