Media Profile & Archive
This archive accompanies the canonical profile of Deng Yuanguo, a teacher at Huaihua No. 1 Middle School documented in Asia Watch’s reporting on political repression in Hunan.
Documented record
Asia Watch’s 1992 Anthems of Defeat identifies Deng as 32 years old. The report says that during the 1989 democracy movement he publicly appealed in support of the student cause and was placed under “shelter and investigation” for a period after June 4.
The same source reports a second detention after the failed August 1991 Soviet coup, following statements calling for the Soviet Communist Party to step down. He was then given two years of re-education through labor. This was administrative detention rather than a criminal-court sentence.
Evidence limits
Current status: unknown. No original administrative decision, confirmed release record, later biography, or present-status evidence has been established in the material reviewed here. The nominal term should not be treated as proof of actual release. Conduct descriptions remain source-attributed.
