Du Fengjuan, a 61-year-old woman from Chengde City in Hebei Province, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison in March 2024 for practicing Falun Gong. She was one of six Chengde residents convicted together by the Shuangqiao District Court; each was also fined 10,000 yuan.
Du was arrested on July 18, 2023, when officers from the Shuangqiao District Domestic Security Division detained five of the six practitioners and searched their homes, seizing Falun Gong materials. The six were held at the Chengde City Detention Center. Their arrests were approved by the Chengde City Procuratorate on August 16, 2023; the Shuangqiao District Procuratorate later took over the cases, and prosecutor Zhang Hongjian filed the indictments.
The practitioners appeared before the Shuangqiao District Court on December 25, 2023, and the verdicts were issued on March 7, 2024: Li Guifang, 61, received four years; Yu Suhua, 55, three years and seven months; Liu Jingchun, 66, three years and six months; Du Fengjuan and Zhao Xiaohong, 56, three years and four months each; and Zhao Baoli, three years. The presiding judge was Fan Xiaojun, with judges Deng Lijing and Zhao Zhiguo.
No reporting on Du’s case has appeared since the March 2024 sentencing. Whether she has been transferred to a prison, appealed, or been released is unconfirmed.
