Feng Guichun, a woman in her 30s from Linyi City in Shandong Province, is serving a four-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong, the spiritual discipline persecuted in China since 1999. She used to work for the Linyi City Central Blood Bank.
According to Minghui.org, which has reported her case since 2024, Ms. Feng was arrested on August 24, 2023, by the Political Security Section of the Lanshan District Police Department and held in the Linyi City Detention Center for nearly five months. Her family was notified by phone by the Lanshan District Court that she would be tried inside the detention center on January 18, 2024. On May 30, 2024, she was sentenced to four years in prison and fined 20,000 yuan. Minghui reports that during the investigation the police and prosecutor refused to meet her family, the judge barred her lawyer from representing her at the first two hearings, and at the third hearing — where the lawyer was allowed to appear — no witnesses were presented for cross-examination. Her appeal was denied on September 30, and she was admitted to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison on October 17, 2024.
In prison, Ms. Feng has been held in solitary confinement at intervals since her admission, according to the same reporting. She was barred from showering for months, forced to watch videos attacking Falun Gong, and, when she refused to sign statements renouncing her faith, guards forced her hand to sign. In August 2025 she wrote to her family saying she intended to file a motion to have her conviction reconsidered; the prison then placed her in solitary confinement again, issued her a “red card” used for inmates deemed disobedient, and restricted her purchases of daily necessities. Family visits in late 2025 and early 2026 described her as pale, emaciated, and malnourished, at one point allowed to buy only fried beans and denied extra food. Her family remains worried about her safety.
