Ren Suxiang (任素香) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, who has been detained repeatedly since 2011. On April 15, 2019, the Yuanbaoshan District Court sentenced her to eight years in prison, according to Minghui reporting.
Background
Ren lives in Jianchangying Township, Yuanbaoshan District, Chifeng City. Her husband, Yu Shulin, is also reported by Minghui to be a Falun Gong practitioner.
Earlier detention
On May 12, 2011, Ren, her husband, and fellow practitioners Yang Guizhi and Yang Guihua traveled to Wengniute Banner to request the release of detained practitioner Ren Suying and were themselves arrested, according to Minghui. Ren was subsequently given a one-year forced-labor term and her husband a two-year term. These claims have not been independently verified.
2018 arrest, trial, and sentencing
On December 18, 2018, Ren was arrested at a neighbor’s home in Chifeng. Minghui reported that police ransacked her home and confiscated a printer, computer, and banknotes printed with messages about Falun Gong.
Minghui reported that after her case reached the Yuanbaoshan District Court, a court-appointed lawyer pressured her to plead guilty and warned her children that she could face a long sentence. She later hired her own lawyer, who entered a not-guilty plea. She appeared in court on February 28 and March 14, 2019. During evidence examination, Minghui reported conflicting police accounts of how materials had been seized, and Ren stated that officers had not shown a search warrant during the home raid.
