Ge Zhihui / 葛志慧

Ge Zhihui (葛志慧) is a Beijing-based petitioner and eviction activist from Fengtai District whose case has been documented by Radio Free Asia, Chinese Human Rights Defenders, Front Line Defenders, and United Nations reporting.

Forced demolition and petitioning

Front Line Defenders reports that Ge’s home was demolished in 2008 and that she was severely beaten while trying to prevent the demolition, leaving her disabled and reliant on crutches. She subsequently petitioned for compensation and assisted other petitioners.

Detentions in 2012

Radio Free Asia reported that Ge was detained in connection with petitioning activity in 2012, including after joining a letter asking then-Premier Wen Jiabao to respond to reports about his family’s wealth. RFA reported that she was held for 40 days in a cage, forced to write an apology dictated by police, and released with a warning. In a separate 2012 episode, she sued Fengtai police over detentions; a local court began hearing the case in July 2012.

2014 arrest and UN case

On March 1, 2014, Ge was arrested at her Beijing home by Fengtai District Public Security Bureau officers and held at Fengtai District Detention Centre. Front Line Defenders and CHRD linked the arrest to her rights work and participation in a human-rights training course on United Nations mechanisms. A May 5, 2014 UN Special Procedures communication reported allegations of ill-treatment and torture leading to two hospitalizations and noted that interrogations focused on her training and a visit to another detained activist. The UN report stated that no government reply had been received at the time.

Status

Rights Defense Network Issue 131, dated August 31, 2026, lists Ge among persons reported in custody. The roster does not provide a detention date or case details for that listing. The most recent independently documented detention in the sources used here is the March 2014 arrest, so no later detention episode is inferred.
