Gong Jinjun / 巩进军

Gong Jinjun (巩进军) is a petitioner from Hebi City, Henan Province. Rights Defense Network Issue 131, dated August 31, 2026, lists him among persons serving life sentences.

2013 detention and forced-confession allegation

Amnesty International’s 2015 report No End in Sight: Torture and Forced Confessions in China records an account from lawyer Liu Shuqing concerning his client Gong Jinjun. According to the report, Gong said police used an electric baton during the first 18 hours of his November 2013 detention to force him to “confess” to stabbing a person hired by the local petition office to intercept petitioners. Amnesty reports that the recorded interrogation began only after that alleged forced confession. The stabbing allegation is therefore presented only as the content of the reported forced confession, not as an established fact or documented offense of conviction.

Public support and status

A 2024 study in The China Quarterly documents a 2014 Shanghai demonstration by petitioners carrying banners that described Gong Jinjun as an “anti-violence hero,” declared him innocent, and opposed violent interception of petitioners and “black jails.”

No public court judgment, sentencing court, conviction date, or documented offense of conviction has been located. The life-sentence classification comes from the August 2026 Rights Defense Network roster and is reported as such.
