Huang Yizi (黄益梓) is a Protestant pastor in Zhejiang Province and pastor of Fengwo Church in Shuitou Town, Pingyang County, Wenzhou. Religious-freedom and rights-monitoring organizations report that he has been detained since June 26, 2025 in a case involving the distribution of audio Bible players containing his sermons.
Earlier church-related cases
ChinaAid and other monitoring sources report that Huang opposed Zhejiang’s church cross-removal campaign in 2014. He was detained in August 2014 and later sentenced in March 2015 to one year in prison for “gathering a crowd to disrupt social order.” He was released in August 2015, then detained again in September 2015 and held for several months under residential surveillance at a designated location.
2025 detention
On June 26, 2025, Pingyang County police detained Huang on suspicion of “illegal business operations.” ChinaAid reports that the case concerns audio Bible players containing his sermons that were distributed to church members. His wife, Lin Aili, described a police search of their home after his detention.
Sources differ by one day on the formal-arrest date: Chinese Human Rights Defenders reports July 29, 2025, while ChinaAid reports July 30. Huang has been reported held at the Pingyang County Detention Center.
2026 proceedings
Chinese Human Rights Defenders reported a pretrial conference on April 20, 2026 and a court hearing scheduled for April 24. Rights-monitoring reporting later described proceedings on April 24–25, but no verdict or sentence has been publicly reported. On August 21, 2026, the Pingyang court notified Huang’s wife that the case deadline had been extended to November 24, 2026. That date is a procedural deadline, not a release date.
Status and evidence limits
Rights Defense Network Issue 131 lists Huang in its Zhejiang detained-without-sentence group as of August 31, 2026. September 2026 reporting stated that four fellow detainees had been released or had restrictions lifted while Huang remained detained. No conviction or sentence is asserted.
