Jia Xuewei / 贾学伟

Jia Xuewei (贾学伟) is an assistant deacon of Early Rain Covenant Church in Chengdu, Sichuan. He was detained during the church’s “January 6” crackdown in 2026 and remained in pretrial custody as of August 31, 2026.

January 2026 detention

Chinese Human Rights Defenders reported that coordinated police raids targeted Early Rain Covenant Church members in Chengdu and Deyang on January 6, 2026. CHRD named deputy deacon Jia Xuewei among six people kept in criminal detention and reported, citing a source it was still seeking to corroborate, that the group was being held at Deyang City Detention Center on suspicion of “inciting subversion of state power.”

August 2026 case update

Rights Defense Network reported on August 26, 2026 that Jia had by then been detained for more than seven months and had been formally arrested on suspicion of “organizing an illegal gathering,” with the case still at the investigation stage.

Status and evidence limits

Rights Defense Network Issue 131 lists Jia among Sichuan detainees held without trial as of August 31, 2026. The January and August reports use different suspected offenses; this profile preserves that dated change rather than treating them as a single settled charge. No conviction or sentence is asserted.
