Ju Dianhong (鞠殿红) is a Protestant Christian from Yunnan Province who is serving a thirteen-year prison sentence imposed in December 2017. U.S. and international religious-freedom sources report that she was prosecuted in a case involving allegations that she belonged to the “Three Grades of Servants Sect,” an allegation she denied.
2016 detention and 2017 sentence
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom reports that Ju was detained in Yunnan in late 2016 and formally arrested on November 25, 2016. On December 28, 2017, the Yun County People’s Court sentenced her to thirteen years in prison and fined her 150,000 yuan under Criminal Law Article 300 for “organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law,” according to USCIRF.
Radio Free Asia reporting republished by the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief states that Ju and five co-defendants denied belonging to the group and planned to appeal. Ju told the court that she was a Protestant Christian and that her evangelism followed the Bible.
