Back to the profile of Li Xuehui
This page is a chronological archive of reporting and documentation about Li Xuehui (李学惠), a Beijing-based activist detained repeatedly since 2014 in connection with June 4th commemoration, pro-democracy advocacy, and online videos, according to CHRD.
2014 — Tiananmen 25th-anniversary crackdown
CHRD documented that Li was taken away by police on May 20, 2014 and placed under criminal detention the next day on suspicion of “creating a disturbance.” His home was searched and computer, books, and other materials were taken. CHRD says he worked with Wang Xiuying to create badges commemorating June 4th and was released on bail pending further investigation on June 28, 2014.
2014 — Hong Kong pro-democracy protest support crackdown
CHRD recorded that Li was detained on October 14, 2014 on suspicion of “creating a disturbance,” held at Shijingshan Detention Center, and released on bail pending further investigation on November 20, 2014.
2017–2018 — Detention and 20-month sentence
CHRD reported that police detained Li in September 2017 along with Ding Lingjie and Wang Fengxian. On December 28, 2018, the Shijingshan District Court convicted all three; Li and Ding received 20-month prison sentences, while Wang’s 20-month sentence was suspended for two years. The case centered on a video that authorities said mocked President Xi Jinping.
2024–2025 — Pre-trial detention
In its June 2025 statement ahead of the 36th anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre, CHRD said Li was in pre-trial detention on “picking quarrels” charges as of September 2024 after allegedly posting a video online. No later status update was located in the prepared evidence packet.
