Li Yaping (李亚萍), born in 1956, is a retired railway worker from Jiangxi Province who was living in Fuzhou, Fujian, at the time of her most recent detention. According to a mainland China prisoners-of-conscience database, she is a Falun Gong practitioner and has been detained multiple times in connection with her beliefs.
The database records that Li formerly worked at the Yingtan railway rolling-stock depot, was previously subjected to two years of re-education through labor, received a four-year prison sentence in 2002, and a four-and-a-half-year sentence in 2015.
According to the same database, Li was arrested on August 17, 2022 by local police in Geling Town, Yongtai County, Fuzhou, while distributing Falun Gong materials, and was held at the Fuzhou Second Detention Center. About a year later she was sentenced to five years and six months in prison. The charge, trial court, and prison location are recorded as unknown. The database gives her term as running through February 16, 2028.
The Rights Defense Network’s monthly report dated August 31, 2026 lists Li Yaping among people recorded as sentenced to five years and six months and among its in-custody political-prisoner and prisoner-of-conscience roster.
