Li Yanping (李艳萍)

Li Yanping (李艳萍) is a member of the Baode House Church, an unregistered Protestant congregation in Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. She is serving a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of organizing others to illegally cross the national border.

According to ChinaAid and the Dui Hua Foundation, Li, who was 61 in 2024, was detained on March 15, 2021 together with Du Liangming (杜亮明), a pastor of a Xinzhou house church. Both were tried in 2022. Li received a seven-year prison sentence and is held at Shanxi Women’s Prison; ChinaAid reported in July 2024 that her release was expected on March 14, 2028. Du received a five-year sentence and was reported held at Yangquan Prison. Dui Hua states that the specific acts underlying the convictions were not made public.

ChinaAid reported statements from Li’s husband, Zhao Chundan, about her condition in detention, including calcium deficiency, inability to read the Bible, worsening memory, and her sharing her faith with fellow detainees. These statements are family-sourced and have not been independently verified.

The case has been discussed by monitoring organizations in the context of prosecutions of house-church members under border-control offenses. This profile does not infer facts about the specific conduct underlying Li’s conviction beyond what the sources report.
