Ma Shutao (马树涛), also reported as Ma Tao (马涛), is an elder of Wheatseed Reformed Church (麦种归正教会), an unregistered Protestant house church in Fuyang, Anhui Province.
2025 detention and prosecution
ChinaAid and Dui Hua report that police detained Ma on June 29, 2025 during a Sunday worship gathering at Pastor Chang Shun’s home. Ma, Chang Shun and Pastor Zhang Sen were later prosecuted on a charge translated as “organizing illegal gatherings.”
Dui Hua identifies the elder as Ma Shutao (马树涛), while ChinaAid and Gospel Herald use Ma Tao (马涛) for the same co-defendant in the same church case. The names are treated here as a documented alias relationship, not as two people.
2026 trial and sentence
The trial was held in June 2026.
