Ma Zhiwu / 马智武

Ma Zhiwu (马智武) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Ningxia who worked as a driver for the Yinchuan Railway Sub-bureau. Falun Gong-affiliated sources report that he was detained repeatedly from 1999 onward and received a fourteen-year prison sentence in 2020.

Earlier detention history

Minghui reports that Ma began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. It states that after traveling to Beijing in 1999 to appeal for the practice, he was detained in Yinchuan and later assigned three years of reeducation through labor. Minghui further reports a six-year prison sentence beginning in 2002 and another three-and-a-half-year sentence imposed in 2011 after a 2010 arrest. Allegations of torture and other mistreatment during those periods remain source-attributed.

2020 case and fourteen-year sentence

Minghui reports that Ma was arrested on June 5, 2020 in Guyuan, Ningxia. The case proceeded through the Yuanzhou District Procuratorate and Guyuan City Procuratorate. After hearings in November 2020, the Guyuan City Intermediate Court sentenced Ma to fourteen years in prison and fined him 30,000 yuan. Minghui gives December 17, 2020 as the sentencing date, while a WOIPFG notice gives January 3, 2021 for the written judgment; the discrepancy is preserved.

Appeal and status

Minghui reports that the Ningxia Higher People’s Court rejected Ma’s appeal in early August 2021 without a hearing and that he was then transferred to the Yinchuan Prison intake unit. No reliable case update after the 2021 appeal decision was located. This profile therefore does not independently assert his current custody, release, or present facility.

Evidence limits

All detailed case reporting located comes from Falun Gong-affiliated outlets and advocacy organizations. No public PRC court judgment or independent official record was located. The verified Chinese name is 马智武.
