Liu Hongyun (刘洪运)

Liu Hongyun (刘洪运) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Acheng District, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. Minghui identifies him as a former worker at the Liuzhong Market and the husband of Zhang Yaru (张亚茹).

Minghui reports a history of detention beginning around 2000, including time at the Changlinzi Labor Camp and a four-year prison sentence imposed after a 2002 arrest. The outlet alleges beatings, electric-baton shocks, force-feeding during hunger strikes, and extortion during earlier detention. These claims remain attributed to Minghui.

On July 4, 2023, Minghui reports that Liu and his wife were arrested by the Acheng District Domestic Security Division. Liu was released on bail on July 9 after a hunger strike, then taken back into custody on August 22. The outlet reports that he resumed a hunger strike and was hospitalized on August 30, 2023.

In May 2024, Minghui reported that Liu had been sentenced to five years in prison and his wife to two and a half years. The outlet said the exact trial and sentencing dates were unclear. In June 2024, Minghui reported that Liu had been sent to Tailai Prison.
