This archive collects the media record of the case of Wang Xiuqin (王秀琴), an 84-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. Arrested at home on February 12, 2025, she was held in the Fuzhou City Second Detention Center, tried by virtual hearing on October 9, 2025, and sentenced in late January 2026 to two years and five months in prison. She has been transferred to the Fujian Province Women’s Prison. The Rights Defense Network lists her as a current in-custody political prisoner (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) — the only person in its two-year-five-month sentence group. Her case is documented by a dedicated February 2026 Minghui report, a March 2026 Minghui persecution-news transfer update, and a 2011 ClearHarmony report on her earlier 2009 arrest.

Source provenance

Minghui (minghui.org) is a Falun Gong-affiliated outlet that publishes practitioner-submitted reports on the detention and prosecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. It is a partisan source: its reports present detentions as persecution and reflect the Falun Gong community’s perspective. Factual claims in the two Minghui articles below should be read as reported by that community, not as independently verified findings.

ClearHarmony (clearharmony.net) is another Falun Gong-affiliated outlet. Its 2011 report records the 2009 arrest of Ms. Wang and several other Fuzhou practitioners; it gives her 2010 sentence as three years with five years’ probation, while Minghui’s 2026 account gives a four-year sentence changed to probation on appeal — a minor conflict in the older record.

The Rights Defense Network (维权网) monthly report is a systematic roster published monthly; Issue 131 lists 1,638 reported current-custody political prisoners grouped by sentence length.

Chronological media record

2000–2007 — repeated seizures. Minghui reports Ms. Wang was seized on October 14, 2000 (released on bail; her daughter given a 1.5-year labor term), arrested on March 5, 2001 (15 days), placed in a brainwashing center in September 2001, arrested on November 4, 2002 (15 days), placed in a brainwashing center in October 2003, and arrested on April 4, 2007 (15 days).

September 16, 2009 — arrest with her daughter. ClearHarmony reports that Fuzhou Domestic Security Division agents arrested retired teachers Fan Kejuan and Wang Xiuqin, “in their seventies,” at their workplaces, ransacked their homes, and held them in the Fuzhou No. 2 Detention Centre. Minghui reports she was tried by the Cangshan District Court on April 9, 2010, sentenced to four years, changed on appeal to probation, taken back into custody on December 12, 2011, transferred to the Fujian Province Women’s Prison on December 15, 2011, and released on November 17, 2013 — reporting drugging, forced kneeling and sitting, sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, and forced labor.

2017 and 2023 — brief detentions. Minghui reports she was arrested on July 7, 2017, and released that evening, and arrested again in August 2023 for mailing letters about Falun Gong; she was detained for over a month and released.

February 12, 2025 — arrest at home. Minghui reports that agents of the Cangshan District Domestic Security Office arrested Ms. Wang at home on the evening of February 12, 2025, raided her home, confiscated her belongings, and interrogated her. Because her blood pressure was dangerously high, she was released on house arrest that night — but police placed her residence under 24-hour watch. A community worker took her Falun Gong books; her written demands for their return went unanswered.

July 14, 2025 — taken into custody. After she refused to sign a renunciation statement, domestic-security agents broke into her home on July 14, 2025, took her to the Fuzhou Second People’s Hospital for a physical examination, and admitted her to the Fuzhou City Second Detention Center. Her arrest was approved on August 21, 2025, and her case was sent to the Minqing County Procuratorate. The Minqing County Court appointed her a lawyer; her family learned of the October 9, 2025 hearing only the day before; she was tried by virtual hearing.

Late January 2026 — sentenced. Minghui reports she was convicted in late January 2026 and sentenced to two years and five months in prison.

March 2026 — transfer. A Minghui persecution-news item confirms she was sentenced to two years and five months in January 2026 and has been transferred from the Fuzhou City Second Detention Center to the Fujian Province Women’s Prison.

August 31, 2026 — roster classification. The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 monthly report lists 王秀琴 in its 判刑2年5个月 (sentenced to 2 years and 5 months, 1 person) group; the English edition confirms “Wang Xiuqin.”

Caveat: its “three years with five years’ probation” conflicts with Minghui’s “four years, changed to probation on appeal” for the 2010 verdict.
