Wang Yanming (王彦明)
Wang Yanming is a Falun Gong practitioner from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, who was sentenced to three and a half years in prison in September 2023.
He worked as a driver at the Daqing No. 10 Oil Production Plant and began practicing Falun Gong in September 1997. According to the case record, he had been arrested, harassed, and detained multiple times in the years before his latest arrest.
Arrest and sentencing
On June 28, 2023, Wang was arrested at his workplace. Officers of the High-tech Development Zone Domestic Security Office said that a surveillance camera had recorded him putting up self-adhesive posters about Falun Gong near his home. Police questioned him about where he had obtained the materials; he refused to answer and was arrested.
Police then raided his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books, bookmarks, and informational DVDs, telling his family that the materials were sufficient to have him sentenced.
The High-tech Development Zone Procuratorate approved his arrest on July 25. The hearing before the High-tech Development Zone Court took place on September 25, with no family members present. He was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison with a 20,000-yuan fine. He appealed to the Daqing City Intermediate Court, which upheld the verdict on November 8, 2023.
Current status
Wang’s employer, the Daqing No. 10 Oil Production Plant, dismissed him on January 18, 2024. As of the February 2024 case report, he was being held at the Daqing City Second Detention Center. He appears in the August 31, 2026 monthly roster of mainland political prisoners and prisoners of conscience as currently in custody; that roster entry is the dated basis for the custody claim, and no later verified update has been published.
