Wang Yifei (王一飞)
Wang Yifei is one of six people convicted of subversion of state power for their roles in the China Democracy Victory Party (中国民主胜利党), an online opposition political party. He was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison in April 2024.
The case
According to a copy of the judgment reported by the Dui Hua Foundation, party founder Tang Gaofeng conceived of the China Democracy Victory Party while abroad in 2008, drafting its platform and constitution. In 2009, Tang came into contact online with Wang Yifei, Wang Wei, and Liu Zhengang; Zhou Dan joined through connections formed later, and Dai Lu joined the party in 2014.
The party held its first meeting in Chengdu in 2011. From 2011 to 2015, members were accused of using overseas social media to recruit members and spread anti-CCP ideology and party programs with the goal of inciting the overthrow of state power and the socialist system.
The judgment cited a single offline act as evidence: in 2013, Wang Yifei posted reactionary slogans in Qianjiang, Hubei, and took photographs of them for the party’s overseas website. Tang later stopped funding the party and ceased contact with other members in 2016.
Arrest and sentencing
The six defendants were initially placed under residential surveillance at a designated location in May 2022 and arrested in September 2022. The first-instance trial concluded on April 24, 2024, before the Luzhou Intermediate People’s Court in Sichuan Province; the Sichuan High People’s Court upheld the sentences in December 2024.
Wang Yifei received seven and a half years’ imprisonment with three years’ deprivation of political rights. His co-defendants received: Tang Gaofeng — 12 years; Wang Wei — 8 years; Zhou Dan — 6 years; Liu Zhengang — 5.5 years; Dai Lu — 3 years.
Current status
Wang Yifei appears in the August 31, 2026 monthly roster of mainland political prisoners and prisoners of conscience as currently in custody; that roster entry is the dated basis for the custody claim, and no later verified update has been published. No prison facility has been named in the sources reviewed for this profile.
