Wei Bin (魏彬) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jiangyou City, Sichuan Province, who was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment by the Jiangyou Court on April 29, 2022, and fined 6,000 yuan, according to case documentation compiled by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG).
Arrest and sentencing
Wei Bin was detained on June 18, 2021, when police came to his home in Xinhua Village, Taiping Township, Jiangyou City, and took him into custody, according to WOIPFG’s case notice. He was formally arrested in August 2021 and tried by the Jiangyou Court in sessions from November 2021 through March 2022. On April 29, 2022, the court sentenced him to six years in prison with a 6,000-yuan fine; his appeal was rejected by the Mianyang Intermediate Court, according to the same documentation.
WOIPFG’s August 2024 follow-up notice reported that Wei Bin was being held in Jiazhou Prison (嘉州监狱) and was on hunger strike in protest. The Rights Defense Network (维权网) listed Wei Bin among prisoners serving six-year sentences in its Issue 131 political-prisoner report dated August 31, 2026, indicating he remained in custody at that time.
Earlier imprisonment and family
According to WOIPFG, Wei Bin had previously been sentenced to 10 years in prison around 2002 and served the term in Deyang Prison, Sichuan. His father, Wei Chaohai (魏朝海), was also detained for his beliefs — sentenced to seven years in 2009 — and died in Deyang Prison on January 1, 2013, according to the same source.
