Arrest and detention
On November 25, 2025, police entered the family home in Dongzhi Village, Yong’an Town, Dashiqiao, and arrested Zhang Yuzhen, Gong Suyan, and Zhang Bo together, searching the residence. Reporting indicates the Dashiqiao City Public Security Bureau had monitored and tracked the mobile phones of local practitioners for roughly six months before the sweep, and that more than twenty officers from the criminal police brigade alone took part. Zhang Bo was held at the Dashiqiao City Detention Center; the women defendants were held at the Yingkou City Detention Center. Formal arrests followed in late December 2025, and the case was transferred to the Zhanqian District Procuratorate, which indicted all nine around March 2026. Four lawyers retained by the families argued that the facts were unclear and the evidence insufficient; the procuratorate proceeded.
Trial and sentencing
The nine were tried at the Zhanqian District Court in Yingkou on July 16 and 17, 2026. The verdict was issued on August 11 as criminal judgment (2026) Liao 0802 Xing Chu No. 72, cited in reporting. Zhang Bo received one year and three months plus a 10,000-yuan fine. His father received nine years; his mother eight and a half years. The other defendants received sentences ranging from six months to seven years.
