Zhao Junxiang (赵俊香)
Ms. Zhao Junxiang (赵俊香), a Falun Gong practitioner from Qingyun County, Dezhou, Shandong Province, is serving an eight-year prison sentence imposed by the Xiajin County Court in September 2020, according to a case report by Minghui.org. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists her in its eight-year-sentence band, confirming she remains in custody serving her term as of that date.
The case
On November 18, 2018, police arrested Ms. Zhao along with four other local practitioners — Du Quancun, Wang Shujuan, Yu Binglan and Zhang Lianyun — while they were reading Falun Gong teachings together, according to Minghui.org, a Falun Gong-affiliated outlet. Ms. Zhao and Ms. Wang were taken to the Dezhou Detention Center and denied family visits.
Police accused Ms. Zhao of producing Falun Gong informational materials for other practitioners; the report says the evidence was fabricated and that several practitioners were forced to sign documents prepared by the police. The cases went to the Xiajin County Procuratorate in December 2018 and on to the Xiajin County Court, which tried the group on January 15, 2020. Ms. Zhao’s and Mr. Du’s lawyers entered not-guilty pleas, arguing that no law has ever criminalized Falun Gong in China and that freedom of spiritual belief is protected by the Chinese Constitution. The court announced the verdicts on September 10, 2020, sentencing Ms. Zhao to eight years.
