Zhu Deyan (朱德艳)
Zhu Deyan (朱德艳) is reported to be a Falun Gong practitioner from Dongfeng County, Jilin Province. According to Minghui.org, a Falun Gong-affiliated reporting outlet, she was arrested on August 8, 2024 while studying Falun Gong teachings at a private home with fellow practitioners, and the Longshan District Court sentenced her to three years in prison with a 10,000-yuan fine. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists her in its 3-year-sentence band, confirming she remains in custody serving her term as of that date.
The case
On August 8, 2024, Zhu Deyan was one of eight practitioners detained while studying Falun Gong teachings at a private home in Dongfeng County. Police raided her home. She was placed under criminal detention and held at the Liaoyuan City Detention Center.
The six practitioners still held (including Zhu Deyan) were tried at the Longshan District Court and convicted. A Minghui sentencing report in February 2025 listed Zhu Deyan as sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment with a 10,000-yuan fine; a Minghui sentencing list entry reads “#40 朱德艳 Zhu Deyan — Jilin, Liaoyuan — 2025, Jan — 3 years — ¥10,000 fine.” The co-sentenced practitioners were Liu Dianzhu (刘殿珠), Dong Yufeng (董玉丰), Dong Yuqin (董玉芹), Yu Liqiu (于立秋), and Yu Ping (于平), each also sentenced to 3 years with 10,000-yuan fines; three of the six — Liu, Dong Yufeng, and Dong Yuqin — were later released on medical parole. No such report exists for Zhu Deyan.
Earlier targeting
Zhu Deyan has been persecuted for her faith before. In September 2011 she was detained at home in Dongfeng County — a report from that time describes police breaking in, stunning her twice with an electric baton, and taking her belongings (she was taken to a brainwashing center). In October 2017 she was detained while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong and was sentenced in 2018 to a term reported as either 16 or 18 months, serving the time at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
Status and evidentiary limits
As of August 31, 2026, the Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 report lists Zhu Deyan in its 3-year-sentence band with an in-custody classification. No release report has been located, and none is given here; no inference is drawn from the medical parole of three of her co-defendants. The case details come from Minghui.org and Clearharmony — all Falun Gong-affiliated; no official court record, no second independent media report, and no state-media coverage has been located, so all case facts are attributed to those outlets. Two limitations are disclosed: the 2018 sentence length is reported as 18 months in the November 2018 Minghui report and 16 months in the February 2025 retrospective — an unresolved minor conflict — and the December 2018 Minghui item’s header mislabels Liaoyuan as “Liaoning Province” (Liaoyuan is in Jilin; the February 2025 article correctly says Jilin). The prison where she is serving the current sentence, her age and family details, and sentence start and end dates beyond the 3-year term reported in January 2025 are not established and are not inferred. She must not be merged with Zhu Yufu (朱虞夫 — China Democracy Party founder), the Pastor Zhu of the Hubei Seventh-day Adventist case, or the 1994 Amnesty “Zhu” record — all different people.
