Zhuang Dongjie (庄东杰) — Person Profile
Zhuang Dongjie (庄东杰) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Hui’an County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. On the evening of June 18, 2022, he was arrested with four other practitioners while reading a Falun Gong book at a private home; in September 2023 he was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison with a 30,000-yuan fine. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists him in its sentenced-to-8-years-and-6-months band, confirming he remains in custody serving his term as of that date.
The case
On the evening of June 18, 2022, Zhuang was reading a Falun Gong book with four other practitioners — his older sister Zhuang Yurong (庄玉容), Liao Cuihong, Zheng Jinqing, and Lin Peisheng — at a private home in Hui’an County, when plainclothes officers entered and arrested all five, according to Minghui’s reporting. The report says the arrests were part of a coordinated sweep across Fujian on June 18–19, 2022, in which more than 30 residents were detained; Zhuang’s younger sister, who does not practice Falun Gong, was also seized that night. Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa) is a spiritual practice that has been banned and suppressed by Chinese authorities since 1999; practitioners have been detained under offenses including “using a cult organization to undermine the implementation of the law.”
The five Hui’an practitioners were sentenced in September 2023. Zhuang Dongjie received 8 years and 6 months in prison and a 30,000-yuan fine. His sister Zhuang Yurong and Liao Cuihong each received 3 years and 6 months; Zheng Jinqing received 14 months and Lin Peisheng 8 months. The indictment, trial, and sentencing details were not reported; Minghui notes they “remain to be investigated.”
Status and evidentiary limits
The Rights Defense Network’s monthly in-custody report for August 2026 lists Zhuang Dongjie among people sentenced to 8 years and 6 months and counted as in custody. No detention facility, appeal record, or release information has been located. None is inferred. The arrest and sentencing narrative comes from Minghui, a Falun Gong-affiliated reporting network; the case facts are recorded as it reports them. No court judgment, official charging document, or state-media report on Zhuang Dongjie’s case has been located. His age, occupation, detention facility, and any appeal outcome are unreported. Do-not-merge: the Guangdong Jieyang “Ms. Zhuang” in a 2022 Minghui report and the Longkou, Shandong practitioner Zhuang Shuhua (庄淑花) in WOIPFG notices are different people — different name forms, provinces, and cases.
