Yang Qiaoli (杨巧丽), a Falun Gong practitioner from Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, was reported sentenced to six and a half years in prison on July 8, 2025, according to the Falun Gong-affiliated outlet Minghui.org.

Yang, a mother of two school-aged children, was arrested in January 2024 by the Yintai District Domestic Security Office, which confiscated her printer, computers, and about 10,000 yuan in cash. Minghui reported that an officer knocked her down and beat her during the arrest, and that guards at the detention center beat her after she failed to recite the detention rules. She was placed in criminal detention at the Zhaojiayuan Detention Center in Wangyi District, and a formal arrest warrant was issued against her on February 8, 2024.

Her younger brother Yang Xijing and her sisters Yang Meili and Yang Mei’e went to the domestic security office to seek her release. Minghui reported that the brother was knocked to the ground and had his face pressed into the pavement, and that he and one sister were then given 15 days of administrative detention.

A Beijing lawyer took up Yang’s case and submitted legal materials arguing that no Chinese law criminalizes Falun Gong; Minghui reported that the domestic security captain, Fu Hong’an, filed a complaint against the lawyer and his firm with the Beijing Judicial Bureau for defending a Falun Gong practitioner, and that the prosecutor, Gao Guanghua, declined to drop the case and indicted her. The Yintai District Court heard the case on August 29, 2024. Her siblings were not allowed to attend the trial or serve as her non-lawyer defenders, and the prosecutor recommended a six-year sentence. The verdict — six and a half years — was issued nearly a year later, on July 8, 2025.

A 2005 report describes a practitioner named Yang Qiaoli detained in Tongchuan after a police sweep that also seized her father-in-law and husband; the available reporting does not explicitly connect that earlier detention to the 2024 case.
