Yang Qiaoli (杨巧丽) — Media Profile & Archive
This archive preserves the reported media record for the case of Yang Qiaoli (杨巧丽) of Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province: her January 2024 arrest, the detention of two siblings who sought her release, the harassment of her defense lawyer, the August 2024 trial, and the July 2025 verdict of six and a half years. All substantive reporting located to date comes from a single outlet, Minghui.org, a Falun Gong-affiliated publication. No independent outlet or official account of this case has been found.
Case chronology (as reported):
- January 2024 — arrest. The Yintai District Domestic Security Office arrests Yang (reported as January 8 in the 2025 verdict report; January 9 in the February 2024 report) after receiving a tip in mid-November 2023 about Falun Gong materials posted in town. Police raid two residences and confiscate computers, printers, over 80 Falun Gong books, flash drives, phones, and about 10,000 yuan in cash. She is placed in criminal detention at the Zhaojiayuan Detention Center in Wangyi District. Minghui reports a beating by Officer Liu Xuan during the arrest and later beatings by detention-center guard Liu Xiaohu and section chief Yang Bowen.
- February 2024 — formal arrest; siblings detained. Prosecutor Gao Guanghua issues a formal arrest warrant on February 8. On February 18, Yang’s brother Yang Xijing and sisters Yang Meili and Yang Mei’e go to the domestic security office seeking her release; the brother is assaulted, and he and one sister are given 15 days of administrative detention. A detention-center note blocks lawyer meetings until her lawyer protests; she meets him on February 20.
- August 29, 2024 — trial. The Yintai District Court hears the case. The prosecutor recommends six years. Siblings are barred from attending or serving as non-lawyer defenders; police remove Yang from the courthouse immediately after. (One passage of this report contains “Ms. Zhao” where “Ms. Yang” is clearly meant — a source-side typo.)
- July 8, 2025 — verdict. The court sentences Yang to six and a half years. Named signatories include presiding judge Qiao Yanfang, judges Jiang Yanqing and Guo Junfeng.
- Earlier incident (same name, background): on January 23, 2005, Tongchuan police detain practitioner Yang Qiaoli — then the daughter-in-law of retired Dongpo Coal Mine worker Yu Changchun — in a mass sweep; she remains in the Tongchuan City Detention Center while her detained husband and father-in-law are released after five days. The reporting does not explicitly connect this to the 2024 case.

Evidentiary limits: all items derive from one reporting organization; the August 2025 roundup is a single evidentiary lineage with the verdict report. No court judgment, official statement, or second independent outlet located. The arrest date is reported as January 8 and January 9, 2024 by different reports. The 2005 identity linkage is probable but not explicit. No prison-transfer report after sentencing has been found; no prison is asserted.
