Wang Yu (王玉)
Note: This page is about 王玉 (Wang Yu), a Falun Gong practitioner from Suiling County, Heilongjiang — not 王宇, the human-rights lawyer detained in the 709 crackdown.
Background
Wang Yu (王玉) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Suiling County, Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province. The CHRD PoC case record (entered January 16, 2026) records his sex as unknown. He is currently reported held at Beian Prison in Heilongjiang.
Case chronology
- May 10, 2025: Wang Yu was arrested with four other Falun Gong practitioners — Li Zhongyuan, Xiu Zhongchen, Zhao Shuquan, and Jiang Ming — in a dawn operation in Suiling County directed by the Heilongjiang provincial public security department, according to the CHRD PoC record and a World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) notice. The five were taken to the Hailun City detention center, then subjected to criminal detention, arrest approval, and indictment.
- October 16, 2025: The Hailun City court sentenced Wang Yu to four years and six months in prison plus a fine of 10,000 yuan, according to both sources; the charge is recorded as unknown in the CHRD record. Co-defendant Li Zhongyuan received five years; Xiu Zhongchen and Zhao Shuquan each received two years and six months with four-year reprieves; Jiang Ming received two years with a three-year reprieve. All five were fined 10,000 yuan each.
- After sentencing: Wang Yu and Li Zhongyuan were transferred to Beian Prison in Heilongjiang, according to the notice; the CHRD record lists Beian Prison as his place of custody with a release date of November 9, 2029.
- August 31, 2026: Rights Defense Network’s monthly report on mainland political prisoners lists Wang Yu among 72 people classified as sentenced to four years and six months and in current custody.

Caveats
- The formal charge against Wang Yu is not publicly documented; the CHRD record lists the charge as unknown. His age, occupation, and sex are not recorded in the sources.
- The arrest and sentencing account is reported by a Falun Gong-affiliated investigative organization and an NGO database; the charges as stated by those sources (“illegal sentencing” characterizations) are attributed to the sources, not independently established findings.
- Rights Defense Network describes its monthly prisoner list as an incomplete count that may contain errors; all figures are attributed to the reporting organization.
